AI at the gates!

We are all afraid of AI, and for good reasons.

Nowadays, LinkedIn is full of people is open to work, and they all seem affected in one way or another by the challenge of AI.

And this applies to high-salary jobs as well. McKinsey is completing an overhaul of their pay structure because of it, as now a Gemini account can do the job of a junior consultant. Not to mention Cloud Code, where you can build fully functioning software (with some gaps, granted) but at a fraction of the time.

So, are we doomed?

Are all the white-collar jobs going to disappear to a robot like the blue-collar ones did twenty years ago? I don't want to be called a fearmonger (even though I like the sound of it - I always wanted to be a cheesemonger!), but I think that a certain kind of knowledge has now been democratized to an extent that the barriers to entry have disappeared completely.

But fear not, I have a solution for you!

To beat AI, just become more human.

Our ancient cousins

Let's take a step back.

Actually, let's take some thousands of steps back to when our ancestors were hunters and gatherers, roaming the earth as nomads.

Picture this now. It is 100,000 BC, you wake up in a cave with your tribe. You are covered in a bear skin you hunted last month, keeping you warm. It has been raining overnight, the smell of the rainy soil permeates the air, whilst the incandescent ambers slightly illuminate the drawings on the wall. You pick up your spear, ready for a day of hunting, whilst the tribe shaman says her morning prayer.

You get the idea. I always get carried away when I write. Of course (duh), no AI was in sight.

It was you, your tribe and nature. That's it.

All your life was based on social interactions: who to trust was based on your instincts, who to choose as a leader was based on pure hunting talent, who to mate with was based on how they made you feel.

In essence, social dynamics were based on the way humans talked, the way humans created a presence, and the way humans projected themselves to the other members of the tribe.

No calculations, no data: just pure instincts.

Modern cavemen

Biology tells us that humans have not evolved much from this period. Even in the corporate world.

We still promote those who speak well and clearly. We buy things from those we feel we can trust, and we still mate with those who make us feel good.

Only the world around us has changed. We might have swapped spears for computers and tribes for social media, but, at the core, we are still the same bear-skin-wearing humans that beat nature by simply running more than any other animal.

If we go back to our roots, and relearn how to be truly human, I believe we are able to fend off AI.

And this is what I focus on in my coaching practice.

Contrary to popular belief, you can learn how to be charismatic, how to be an articulate speaker, and how to exude confidence. And, with the help of a good coach (yours truly, for example,😉), you can become the leader of your tribe!
